Day Dreaming in Doonbeg …

This is Kim, one of my stunning August Brides. Kim said, “I do” in Doonbeg, Co. Clare and wowed everyone with her fantastically glamourous wedding! She reminded me of a modern version of Marie Antoinette. Kim LOVES make up and wanted to look like herself as most brides do on their wedding day, so we went for dewy skin, a matt mink smokey eye and natural lip with hints of brown.

She looked BEAUTIFUL.

Photography was by Martin Maguire www.martinmaguirephotography.com who took some wonderful shots on the day.  And for any bride getting married in Doonbeg – all I can tell you is WOW!

Getting ready!

The dress …

Their vintage car -

And her gorgeous sister …

She said YES!

The Newly Weds on Doonbeg Strand …

And the Marquee …

Wishing Kim and Paul all the best.  Their future looks glorious!

Behind The Scenes …

Behind the Scenes are frantic, fun, intense, creative, sometimes nail biting, manic and chilled all at once!!  I LOVE it.  Being part of a creative environment really rocks my boat – it pushes me to constantly be a better make up artist.

I was digging through my iphone album today and uncovered a few shots I took on different shoots I was involved in over the year …

Foundation Foundation Foundation!

Time and time again, folk I meet ask the same question – ‘What is the best foundation out there, I’m never happy with mine…’.  So after years of trying out all sorts of bases that promise the sun, moon and stars, I’ve narrowed my favourites down to a firm six.  It was supposed to be a top 5 list, but all of these cut the mustard in my book!

Knowing your skin type and treating it accordingly is half the battle.  It also makes choosing a foundation a hell of a lot easier – treat yourself to a consultation with a good beautician who will analyse your skin and recommend suitable skin care products for it.  Prepping your skin correctly is just as important as having the right base on!

Make Up Forever HD foundation is a base I use on dehyradated/dry skin that needs medium to full cover.  It’s a super lightweight foundation that glides on and gives a seamless, flawless finish without looking heavy.  It’s perfect for brides as it photographs really beautifully making average skin look like perfect skin! It is a tad on the expensive side, but a little goes a long way!  It’s one floating on the top of my list …

I LOVE this foundation.  It’s the Estee Lauder double wear light and I use it on brides who have combination/oily skin.  It gives a beauiful, matt finish and covers uneven skintone and imperfections perfectly.  When I use this, clients love how it feels and looks.  Again this foundation makes your skin look like your own skin on its very best behavior!  I use it with the 190 MAC foundation brush.  You need to work quite quickly with though as it sets straight away.

MAC studio sculpt.  Perfect for drier skin.  It gives a medium cover, but builds nicely to a fuller finish if needs be.  I use this mainly on shoots as it looks fantastic on camera and on screen.  Use MAC careblend powder over it to set to give a gorgeous soft focus finish.  I love buffing this onto skin using the MAC 187 foundation brush for a quick and natural application.

Also from MAC is the pro longwear range of foundation/concealor which promises to last for up to 12 hours.  And it really does!  I like this on normal/combination skin.  It gives fantastic cover and is completely buildable so you can create both a natural or full cover finish with it.  Pro longwear foundation also has a buddy in a concealor which is just amazing for covering and concealing to full effect without looking in anyway heavy.  Top marks from me!  N.B if your skin is anyway dehyrated, make sure to use plenty of moisuriser and primer underneath this product so it doesn’t look tacky.

DIOR flash foundation – heaven in an aerosol can!!  I’m normally pretty dubious when it comes to anything gimmicky but after SERIOUS consideration (yes, I’m a complete geek when it comes to makeup!) I bit the bullet and bought this baby – it didn’t disappoint.  I’m always on the quest for the perfect foundation for oily skin and this hit the nail on the head.  It gives fantastic cover, works beautifully on oily skin, giving a matt but not chalky finish and even manages to make large pores disappear!  It also holds perfectly throughout the day.  WIN!. Apply with a sponge and stipple onto skin for fuller cover.

This is the perfect foundation for people who want their base to look like a second skin.  It’s ultra light but gives enough cover to even skintone.  It’s fresh and dewy finish brightens up your complexion making it the best daytime foundation you could hope for!  Suitable for normal/combination skin with little or no blemishes.  Angels in a bottle!

And that’s it!  Feel free to post a comment on here to let us know how you get on, or for any questions you have about this topic!

Here comes the Bride …

This is Paula.   She was one of my sunny June brides!   Like any bride, Paula wanted to look beautiful on her wedding day and I think it’s safe to say that she really did.  When I chat to brides about their make up, i always have a detailed conversation about the style of their wedding.  I could tell you that I do this solely for work purposes, because I want to create a look that emulates my brides wedding style, but I’d be lying.  I secretly love listening to all the tiny details, but don’t tell anyone!

So when Paula told me she would be wearing a sweetheart, full skirted dress with a cathedral veil I got excited!  Perfect for Paula, who loves a little bit of fairytale with a happy ever after …

Her flowers were tones of pretty pinks, yellows and soft peaches which gave me lots of ideas for her make up.   Because she loves all things elegant and vintage, I wanted to create something that captured all of that.   I used creams and soft browns with a polished slick liner on Paulas eyes and pretty pinks on Paulas lips and cheeks to soften the look and complement her flowers.   What a doll!

Your wedding day is all about marrying the man you love and commiting yourselves to each other for the rest of your life.  It’s also about celebrating this with one hell of a party and the day when you should look like you feel BEAUTIFUL!

So I ask, what look makes YOU feel beautiful?!

Beautiful Brights for July!

Welcome to my blog!  I’m posting pics of some of my favourite make up products to start with which I unearthed from the corner of my kit case!  Perfect for parading around festival tents and picnic parks!

Top Tip:  Keep your make up light and fresh with pops of colour either on lips or cheeks!

1.  Prep skin with some decent skincare.  I’m personally a HUGE fan of dermalogicas skincare range.  Cleanse, tone and moisturise and if you really want to make a difference, use a good primer, followed by a skin serum.  (MAC do amazing post skincare, pre make up products to really help hold your base in place and may even make your skin look as soft as a baby’s bottom!!)

2.  Apply foundation with a good quality brush.  Believe me, there IS a difference in how your skin will look.  I love all MAC brushes, they are without a doubt the best in the industry.  My two favourite foundations at the moment are MUFE HD foundation for a medium to full cover and MAC face and body for a lighter finish.

3.  For something quick and easy, and perfect for popping on in between gigs, use MAC paint pots.  They come in an array of colours, are easy to apply and are water resistent.  What more do you need?!  Apply using a blending brush for a professional finish of course!

4.  Cheeks.  Yes, summer is all about fresh, glowing skin.  Add colour to your base by popping on a cream blusher.  I like MAC cream blushers.  The colour impact is incredible.  End of.

5.  Finish with a gorgeous gloss.  MAC creamsheen gloss’s are curently on my top 5.  They give great colour coverage without the sticky finish.

Happy festival frolics my friends!
